VCRC Sound Level Requirements

The Valley City R/C Club has a noise limit rule. The following is an example of how it works:

  1. The airplane is placed on the grass, heading into the wind.
  2. The dB meter is placed nine feet to the side of the airplane (on the side opposite the muffler).
  3. The engine is running with the carb wide open (full throttle) and the needle valve is leaned out to the normal flight setting.
  4. The dB meter is read (Using the "A/Slow" scale).
  5. A tachometer is used to check RPM
  6. The dB reading, plus one per each one thousand RPM should not equal more than 103. (For 4-cycle engines, use one per each two thousand RPM).

EXAMPLE:

dB reading = 90
+12,000 RPM = 12
Total = 102
